I just wanted to let you all (or should my new Texan self say y’all) know that I am in the process of moving this blog to a web hosted site with a new domain name and everything. It’s been a bit of work and a LOT of research but I’m hoping that the end result will become something that you all love and check back in on. I don’t really tell people about my blog but that will be changing once I get my new site up and running, might as well give it all I’ve got, right? So I hope you don’t mind the kinks I have to work out to make this site better for you! 🙂

I’m sorry I have been so M.I.A. Someone who I was very close with had passed away and it came as such a shock that I really couldn’t think of anything else for a while. While I’m happy to have another trip back home, I desperately wish it were under happier circumstances. It’s really still fresh and I keep wishing that this person will somehow make an appearance and it’ll all just be some horribly cruel joke, but it hasn’t happened yet, its just unbelievable.
On to happier topics, I have such a big backup on posts so I’ll show you a little bit of whats been going on through the week. At the beginning of last week, I had a really awesome manicure; Sally Hansen’s Coral Reef paired with Essie’s Luxeffects Shine of the Times. It was the perfect combination, in anticipation for summer; a coral base with orangey flakies. I didn’t put a top coat on this so it ended up chipping prematurely but what a great excuse for another manicure, right?

My manicure during the second part of the week was Sally Hansen’s Mint Sorbet paired with Essie’s Luxeffects Pure Pearlification (can you see the trend?) which was a great spring has sprung combination; Toby said it reminded him of Easter eggs. This one is still on my nails but I think tonight is a good day for a manicure change 🙂 I hope your springs have been pleasant!

Sally Hansen’s Mermaid’s Tale

Posted on

I love Mermaid’s Tale! Which is a little odd because I’m indifferent to a lot of Deborah Lippmann polishes (like which Sally Hansen’s Mermaid’s Tale is a dupe for Across the Universe). But this one made me change my mind, there is something spectacular behind them! I redid my nails after The Black Knight started chipping, I suspect its my base coat/top coat though, not the polish itself. I used to use Seche Vite but I kept running out of it and it also gets really sticky and stringy quickly. I’ve been using Essie’s 3-way glaze but I don’t know… It’s slow to dry and a tad liquidy, it also seems to chip faster but it does put on a nice shine, but this isn’t a review for Essie… Back to Mermaid’s Tale; it is a navy blue jelly base with green, mid-tone blue and a lighter blue hexagonal glitter mixed with smaller mid-dark blue tiny sparkles. It’s so pretty and shiny! I layered this over Essence’s Date in the Moonlight which is a dark, almost navy blue with teeny tiny navy shimmer in it. The shimmer is so subtle it’s almost undetectable unless you examine your nails, it’s a little bit more obvious in the bottle but you still have to really look at the bottle. Which both of these polishes, the brush applicators were so much more different than the ones that I’ve been used to using with Essie and China Glaze polishes. The brush tips were rounded and seemed to hold more polish to brush on, the rounded tip were a bit more user friendly and seemed to hug the shape of my cuticles. Date in the Moonlight’s first coat went on lighter than expected even though I’m a bit sloppy with my polish and just seem to slather it all on. After the second light coat, it was the same shade as it is in the bottle, the formula was delightful, not too thin and definitely not thick, it dried pretty fast and even held a bit of shine without a top coat. It would have been a nice manicure by itself, did I also mention it’s super cheap? Yup, $1.99 at Ulta! To complete my manicure, I layer on just one layer of Sally Hansen’s Mermaid’s Tail and this definitely stole the show… Layered over Date in the Moonlight, Mermaid’s Tail looked exactly as the shade in the bottle. It’s very eye catching, the tiniest bit of light will illuminate the hexagonal glitter, it reminds me of walking along a body of water at night time and seeing something sparkling in the water at the bottom (like a coin… except instead of it being gold or silver, it’s green…) Sally Hansen’s Mermaid Tail is $7.99 at Ulta vs Deboarh Lippmann’s Across the Universe which is $17, what a steal!
